Just a quick thank you for all of our gifts and cards! We really do appreciate it! A fabulous year has been had and we hope you all have a restful summer! We will miss you all!
The Year 3 Team
Wow! Our final full week in school and what a busy year we have had. We have been very lucky this week and were able to watch the Y6 production all about Peter Pan. We also watched Y4 perform their brass concert. We have finished off the week by getting to meet Costa properly now she has settled back with her owner. We have also watched the Y2 poetry performance and we enjoyed the songs that they sang!
Week beginning 26th June
What a busy week! We started off the week with taking part in a whole school dance with South Ribble called Dance From The Heart. We really enjoyed ourselves and we were very lucky to meet Elsa and sing along with her!
3SB had an Eid party and enjoying learning a little bit about it. One of the children even answered some of the children’s questions!
Year 3 were then very lucky to find a missing parrot! Thank you Ryan for pointing this out! We even heard the parrot talk. We helped the parrot (Costa) get back to its owner. It had been missing for 4 days! Please see Mrs Webb’s blog for the full story!
On Thursday we took part in a whole school French day. We made a collage onto the country France. Then we were lucky to learnt about ‘mardi gras’ and what happens as well as making our own masks for the festival. We then watched a performance that was partly in French and we found it very funny! To finish off the day we enjoyed some pastries whilst listening to some French music.
Next week is sampler day and the children are getting ready to move to year 4. We can’t believe how quick this year has gone!
Week beginning 7th June
We have started with a short week this week. We were lucky enough to go on a school trip to Southport Gold academy and we were very lucky with the weather! The children completed 3 activities focusing on how to hold a golf club, how to control the ball and how to complete long shots and short shots. Some of the year 3 children attended Preston college in an engineering competition following the construction of our tipper trucks before half term. The children were interviewed by fellow engineers about their construction and then saw how far their tipper trucks would travel down a ramp.
Next week is sports day. We look forward to seeing you then
Week beginning Monday 22nd May 2023
This week we have had another busy week in Year 3 and the children have had a fabulous week taking part in all of our STEAM activities.
The children have enjoyed a Music Technology workshop where they created their own pieces of music, Baxi Engineering came to help the children create their own tipper trucks and finally yesterday the children enjoyed our KAPLA activity where the whole school have took part in creating a piece of art.
The children in 3GB have enjoyed their final session of forest school in the sunshine showing off their creative skills.
We have also been outside in the lovely weather practicing for our sports day.
The children have worked really hard this term and we are all very proud of them.
We hope you all have a wonderful half term break and we look forward to seeing all the children in June for our final term in year 3!

Week beginning 15th May
This week we have been writing our instructions on how to plant some flowers based on the book Omar, The Bees and Me. The children have enjoyed writing too tips starting with the word If or using the word or in the middle of their sentence.
We have had a Roman soldier come into our school. He taught us lots of new information and we even got treated like Roman soldiers.
In Maths we have been looking at fractions of amounts. The children have been doing this by using counters.
Finally, we have been doing some experiments in Science. We have used blue food colouring and some water to see how water transports through a stem. We can’t wait to see the results!

Week beginning 1st May 2023
This week we have enjoyed having a special lunch, assembly and activities ready to celebrate the King's Coronation. All of the children have enjoyed seeing their mosaic on display in the main entrance. I'm sure you'' all agree how fabulous it was!
In English this week we have been continuing with Omar and the bees. The children have written a diary entry linked to the story. They have particularly enjoyed writing rhetorical question e.g. If we plant more trees will the bees be more friendly?
Please can you bring in a shoe box ready for STEAM week. A letter was sent out about this before half term.
3GB have enjoyed accessing our reading shed and Forest School.

Week beginning 24th April
This week we have been very lucky to take part in a mosaic workshop! All children in year 3 created a mosaic, but Jack from 3GB and Nectaria from 3SB had their design combined for the whole of year 3 to create. Rachel Hyde was impressed with how hard we worked and we were so lucky to be able to complete it. We are now waiting for this to be put up outside of Mrs Webb’s office!
Week beginning 27th March
We are at the end of another half term! The children have had a busy week.
We have enjoyed learning the dance from Dance From The Heart. There are lots of brilliant dancers in Year 3! We have been lucky to see lots homework and how creative some have been. Some of the children even made a 'tortoise' shape with their shields.
Just a quick reminder that children need to come into school with their P.E kits on Monday 17th April for a South Ribble P.E festival. We have also set a battle between both classes for the children to complete if they want over half term

Team Year 3 :)
Week beginning 19th March
Last week we were super busy designing and making photo frames for Mother’s Day! We hope you liked them as a lot of thought went into the design.
We continue to enjoy learning more about the Romans and have started a piece of writing about Boudicca. Lots of new vocabulary has been learnt so that we can incorporate these into our writing.
In Maths we have finished looking at Multiplication and division. We enjoyed learning about remainders and used lollipop sticks to help us.
Some of the children were fascinated with the information learnt in our reading session. The thing we were most shocked at was the mention of flamingos!
Homework is due on Monday and we look forward to show casing their work.
We can’t believe that next week we finish for half term!
Week commencing Monday 6th March.
This week we have completed our assessments for Maths and English. We are very proud of how well the children have worked.
We have started to practice Dance from the Heart ready for our whole school performance in May. The children have enjoyed learning some of the steps and we will continue this over the next few week.
3GB have continued with forest school and this week, the children have enjoyed being outdoors and working as a team. They even battled through the cold, wet weather!
Next week is our Science week and we will be looking at Isaac Newton and some other scientists linking with our partner schools in London.

Year 3
Week begninning 27th February
This week has been English week at school. The children have been involved with lots of zooms. We were very lucky to meet the author who wrote 'How to wash a woolly mammoth' and had lots of questions about her being an author. We were then lucky to meet an author who helped us design our own monsters! Lots of children had fabulous ideas e.g. a bogey monster who lived in a small, slimy place. 3SB finally finished their class novel about Omar and enjoyed writing a book review about it.
We have been working hard on multiplying 2 digits by 1 digit. This has been really tricky, but the children have shown great perseverance and have shown a great understanding!
We are well on our way with writing our non-chronological reports! We have found lots of interesting key facts about the Romans and look forward to learning even more! The facts that were the most interesting was all about the food and that the poor Romans would eat takeaways!
In History this week we looked at what the words BC and BCE stood for and then put dates into a chronological order.
3GB have had another fabulous session at Forest School!
Finally, both year 3 classes have PE on the same day. Please can you ensure that their name is written in their hoody as lots do not have them in and they are all the same. Children are then struggling to find their hoody as their name is not in or it has faded in the wash and may need rewriting on!

Week beginning 20th February
We have started another half term and hope you’ve had a lovely restful break!
This week we all started yoga and really enjoyed stretching and trying different poses.
Half of 3GB did their first session of Forest School. They really enjoyed it and are looking forward to their next few sessions with Miss Lucas and Mrs Lang.
In English we have started looking at non-chronological reports and will eventually be writing one about the Romans. We have had to find the key features and sort key facts into the correct subheading.
We have started lots of new topics within our foundation subjects such as: Kandinsky, the Romans, rights and responsibilities, fruits, emails and yoga.
Week commencing 6th February
This week has been a fabulous week for Year 3! We started off the week with watching Year 4's poetry performance. It was enjoyable.
We have finished off our week with completing a sports festival. It was a paralympic festival. The children had lots of fun, but found some of the activities tricky!
We also took part in an Internet safety day and learnt lots of valuable information.
We also finished off our mosaics and I'm sure you will enjoy seeing them when we take them home.
Another half term done! Have a lovely safe half term!
Week commencing 30th January.
This week we have been writing our Spring poems and have written some beautiful ones making sure they included their ideas from our Spring plan. Well done Year 3!
The children have also continued their KidSafe sessions with Mrs Jackson.
In Art this week we have planned our own mosaic and then used our plan to create a tiled mosaic using individual pieces. Next week we will continue these ready to bring home before half term.
The children all enjoyed a money workshop delivered by HSBC showing them how they can budget their money and decide if this is something they want or need.
In Music this term we have been looking at Chinese New Year, the children created their own mask and pieces of music based on a pentatonic scale. The children have thoroughly enjoyed learning all about Chinese New Year and showing pictures in class for those who went to celebrate The Year of the Rabbit. We even celebrated in class with fortune cookies!
We cannot believe next week is our last week before half term. The children have tried their best this half term and we are so proud of them!

Week beginning 16th January
We have been writing fables this week in English and have written some fabulous ones making sure that we include Year 3 writing skills. Lots of children have used fronted adverbials, powerful verbs and even inverted commas correctly!
In cup stacking we have been looking at different change overs and trying to improve our time! This is very tricky!
The children have completed another KidSafe session
The children have been creating their own animation. We watched a clip of Wallace and Grommit and discussed how this may have been done. They made their own fable and tried lots of skills to make this work.
Some children have been lucky to do Kwik cricket and it has been lovely to see how much they are enjoying the sessions!
This half term seems to be flying by!
Week beginning Tuesday 3rd January 2023
We just wanted to wish you a happy new year and we hope you all had a lovely chilled break! Another thank you again for all of our gifts and cards!
We were very lucky to be able to watch a pantomime! We watched Robin Hood which all the children thoroughly loved. The children even offered Miss Batey and Mrs Bell to go to the front and do a dance!
Both classes have completed a scootsafe session and we now know how to be safe on them! We have also started our kid safe sessions with Mrs Jackson.
The children have come back ready to learn and have tried their best this week and we are so proud of them!

Week beginning 12th December
Well we have finally made it to the Christmas break! We can't believe how fast this half term has gone. Just before we start we want to thank all parents for their gifts and cards!
3SB have officially finished Forest School and have really enjoyed their time and 3GB are excited to start in the new year! This week we have had our Christmas party and have played corners, bingo, kahoot quizzes and karaoke. The afternoon went so quick and we loved our party food.
The children have finished off the week with Miss Duce's annual Christingle service. It was lovely to hear the choir sing some Christmas carols.
Please bring in scoot safe letters on Tuesday 3rd January.

Week beginning 4th December
We have had a busy week!
In English the children have been super busy writing instructions on How to Wash a Woolly Mammoth. We thought of some brilliant top tips!
Now all about Christmas!
We started off the week with watching the fabulous Year 2 Nativity!
Later in the week Josh and Benjamin treated us to a Christmas song which they have been learning in their brass lesson. We were then lucky to listen to the Year 4 children.
The children came in their Christmas jumpers and enjoyed a Christmas meal. It was lovely to see the children smile and laugh with their friends!
We can’t believe that next week is our final week in school before Christmas!
Week beginning 28th November 2022
We started off our week by performing our poetry to parents and grandparents. We really enjoyed showing you how hard we had worked to do this. If you were not able to see the performance, we have put a link below:

Eden - In singing assembly we learnt some new Christmas songs and we are getting into the Christmas spirit.

Week beginning - Monday 21st November
The children have been up to lot this week. It has been assessment week and all of the children have tried their best throughout. We have had some brilliant setting descirptions written based on summer and winter.
The week was started off with watching England play thier first game in the World Cup. The children enjoyed the atmosphere and loved cheering on our team, especially when England scored. Each class has done their own 'sweep stake' lets see who the winner is going to be! We have been trying really hard with our performance poetry and can't wait to show you all at 2:45pm on Tuesday!

Week beginning 14th November
Another busy week has passed! We enjoyed our school trip to Brockholes on Wednesday.
We did some Stone Age activities which included:
Building natural shelters – The children worked in small groups to make natural shelters using natural materials in the woodland.
Fire lighting in a safe environment – This involved using a fire steel and lighting a fire.
We visited and learnt about the stone circle.
Finally we played a hunting stars game – The children tried to throw two sticks tied together at a target.

Week beginning 6th November
This week year 3 have had a fantastic week completing lots of activities and attending our memorial assembly ahead of Remembrance Sunday.
An app message has gone out to all parents to remind them of the items the children will need for our first year 3 trips on Wednesday. As a reminder please can you ensure children bring disposable water bottles and not their usual bottles and packed lunch boxes as we will be binning all items.
We will also be taking part on Monday with Odd Sock Day!!
Due to our school trip on Wednesday Forrest school will take place on Monday next week. All children who take part in Forrest School will need to bring their usual outdoor clothes on Monday.
English:
This week in English we have carried on with our Escape to Pompei unit and have planned a story map using fronted adverbials for time and manner, prepositions, powerful verbs and expanded noun phrases ahead of writing our full story next week.
Maths:
We have been using concrete materials to explore and complete written column addition, the children have enjoyed using resources to help them consolidate their learning and next week we will be continuing this with subtraction!

Year 3 class team
Week beginning 31st October
Both classes had their life skills workshop all about Mental Health. We started off with a warm up and discussing about what we think Mental Health means. We watched a cartoon video all about Mental Health which we enjoyed watching and learning about. We then did some role play with each other and discussed our thoughts and feelings and how to give advice to each other.
The children have enjoyed our Maths lesson this week. We have been adding two and three digit numbers together using base 10. We have then looked at this pictorally.
It was half of Miss Batey's class last session of Forest School this week. Mrs Lucas and Mrs Tickle were so proud of all of the children. Here are some of the comments that the children have made below. The other half are very excited about Forest School!
Finally, we started our R.E topic by discussing what different things we all do at Christmas and what we enjoy. We did this by playing pass the parcel! Sorry parents we have mentioned the C word already (Christmas)
We have finished the week with wearing our own clothes. We can't believe that we have completed our first full week already!
Nectaria - the best thing about forest school is playing the 123 where are you game. It’s the best thing in school ever
Evie - I liked making tree cookies, it’s the best thing I have ever done
Eden- It’s been the best experience ever, I love having lots of choices
Zara - Forest school is learning but having fun att the same time, it’s a really good environment. I love how there’s no rules except safety rules. I love everything, so many choices and it’s just brilliant
Thea -I loved making broomsticks out of bamboo and playing in the mud kitchen. I wish I could stay here longer
Elissa - I love playing lots and snack time. I loved chopping fire wood.
Week Beginning 17th October
We met Greg who taught us some first aid. We talked about what we would find in a first aid bog like bandages, plasters, a bottle of water, scissors, ice packs, slings, wipes, safety pins, gloves, tape, face shields and a blanket.
We know to call 999 for emergency help. We discussed when we would call 112 as well. We talked about how we would tell operators where we are and we talked about how important it is to know our addresses as well. We learnt something which will help us throughout life as well and it’s an app that finds our location called what3words.
We then learnt how to resuscitate someone in case they are in danger. As well as how to do a sling, bandage and put someone in the recovery position.
The children have been busy making healthy sandwiches this week. Lots of children tried lots of new things! Most of us enjoyed eating them and evaluating what went well.
The children had a dog assembly as well which told them how to be safe round dogs.

Week beginning 10th October
We all can't believe that nearly a whole half term has gone by already!
We have been lucky to have a workshop all about water this week. We sung, danced and learnt lots of interesting facts about how water is used and how to use it better. All of Year 3 had a brilliant time and enjoyed some of the free gifts that were given to them from united utilities.
We have started our new topic in English with the book Escape from Pompeii. We have really enjoyed watching some videos and the children had lots of questions to ask about what we had seen. We have started to use fronted adverbials, expanded noun phrases and powerful verbs within our writing which will soon lead to a setting description.
We have been lucky enough to watch Year 5 do their Harvest Assembly in front of the whole school.
Some of 3SB had another wonderful week at forest school and have been lucky with the weather again.
Next week is life skills week and we will be super busy with lots of activities and workshops which have been organised for us.
Week beginning 3rd October
English - We have carried on looking at The Twits this week, but have spent the week looking at instructions, annotating what is needed in them and how to write our own. We have written about How to make our own wormy spaghetti and we made sure that we used imperative verbs at the start. We then finished off with some helpful hints and tips!
Topic - We did some research about 5 key places to visit in Partis. The children found lots of interesting facts and were even shocked by some.
In science we were understanding what the nutrtition vaules meant and ordered from the least amount to the most amount. This was quite a tricky task, but we all really enjoyed it!
Forest school children had a wonderful time. Please look at what they have been up to!
Week Beginning 26th September
Forest school children have been sawing wood cookies to make spinners in future weeks. They were also lucky to have nice weather!
We have been really busy this week and have been writing letters to the RSPCA about why The Twits should not have their pets. We also finished off the week with an advert for the Twits house and made it sound appealing to others!
We were able to look at the books that are being sold at the book fair and found a variety that we liked.
In French this week we are now able to say hello, how are you, goodbye and how they are feeling.
Some super reading has been done this week, keep this up!
Finally, we got the instruments out and made a soundscape based on Mountains, lots of fun was had with different percussion instruments.
Week Commencing 20th September
Children in Year 3 have been busy this week. We have learnt how to line draw in the style of Boris Schmitz and tried to draw ourselves without taking the pencil off the paper.
Some of Miss Batey’s class have also started taking part in Forest school as part of the curriculum. They had lots of fun in their first session and look forward to the next one.
We have also started a new subject which is French. We now know some phonic sounds and have looked closely at some people who live in France as well as key places within the country. This has also linked into our Geography topic - Paris Basin.
We’ve also researched some key information about food groups and understand what they do for us.
Week Beginning Monday 12th September
We started off our week taking part in a Rugby festival. The children learnt lots of new skills and played lots of different games!
We carried on our week learning about The Twits and used adventurous vocabulary to describe them. The children really enjoyed playing a card game and finding someone in the class with the correct answer!
The children have been looking at how to flexibly partition 3 digit numbers and have been using base 10 to help us.
We have finally been commemorating the Queen by drawing pictures of her and King Charles III. The final pictures look fabulous! We have also learnt the new national anthem, drawn inside a shield of what reminded us of her as well as writing a condolence card.

We have been looking at Mr and Mrs Twit. Write down adjectives to describe the two characters.
Week Commencing Monday 5th September.
Year 3 have had a great start to the year and we have been pleased with all their hard work and effort.
This week in English we have started to read about The Twit's, we have been using our comprehension skills to answer questions about the book and also use our imagination to make predictions about what we think will happen next - the children loved reading about all the pranks Mr & Mrs Twit have been playing!
On Friday the whole school attended a special memorial assembly to pay our respects to the Queen and to continue this over the next few weeks we will have special activities to celebrate her life.
This week all children have attended a Ju-Jitsu taster session from Nippon UK to showcase an extra curricular after school club which takes place after school every Friday. If your child would like to take part, more information will be included on the letter which has been sent home today.
Next week all children will be taking part in a Rugby festival where children will be learning new skills and team work. All children will need to be wearing their PE kit on Monday.
