Axia Learning Alliance is a collaboration & partnership between Lostock Hall Community Primary School, Tarleton Community Primary School, Penwortham Broad Oak Primary, Longton Primary School, New Longton All Saints' C of E Primary and Bamber Bridge St Aidan's CE Primary.
What an amazing day! Bringing all the children together from our 5 schools to enjoy activities and make new friends.
We enjoyed singing 'Best Day of our Life!' at the end of the day.
Axia Schools worked with AFACT Schools (From Bromley) over the course of British Science week.
Each class learnt about a famous scientist, we shared our scientific knowledge and also shared activities/experiments we had completed.
Working collaboratively with schools from across the country allowed the children to also talk about their schools and where they lived...this linked in well with the focus: CONNECTIONS.
AXIA Update February 2022: Forest Schools: Weekly groups are working with staff each week on a variety of outdoor activities. We’ve looked at our rules whilst using the area and also enjoyed playing in the mud. Forward First: If you know of anyone who would like to get into teaching. Please forward them our details. https://www.lostockhallcps.co.uk/forward-first-school-direct/ See open day information on the next page. Cooperative Schools: HT’s from all Axia schools have delivered an update to other schools across the country about our journey so far. This information was welcomed and will provide allow Trusts to share and transfer our good practice within their teams.

Axia update (January 2022)
Peer Review: On 24th November our school had our Peer Review visit. We are working with Penwortham Broad Oak and St Aidan’s CE Leadership Teams from Axia Learning Alliance, who will work with our Senior Leaders to celebrate our good practice and look for our next steps. Our identified next steps are: to ensure consistency across school with regards to subject specific vocabulary and to be mindful of how children learn and the cognitive science behind this.
Forest schools: Our Forest school area has been fully developed and is ready for groups to access this area. Staff have all passed their qualification (Level 2/3) and are working with groups of children across school to widen our curriculum offer.
Meeting: Board meeting with our Trustees took place on 26.1.22 to feedback about our projects. We are widening our links with UCLan to improve opportunities for our children and training for our staff.
I’m a Clever Writer: Staff training for Y2 and 3 staff has taken place for us to implement a new intervention to improve writing, this will be ongoing for 10 weeks. Sarah Lilley shares her ideas and discusses lesson approaches with staff to develop lessons which will stretch our children.
Forward First: If you know of anyone who would like to get into teaching. Please forward them our details. https://www.lostockhallcps.co.uk/forward-first-school-direct/
Open days at all our partner schools have been arranged for people to pop in to discuss teaching as a career option.
Meeting with the MP: HT and our Pupil Leaders met neighbouring MP Katherine Fletcher on 21.1.21. The children were able to ask questions about general and community issues they felt effected them and also why she wanted to become an MP. They were a credit to our school.
AXIA Update (October 2021):
Forest Schools: During last summer term, a group of 6 children completed a 6 week programme at New Longton All Saints C of E Primary School. Mrs. Lang led the sessions for our children and staff. There were real benefits for the children who participated; improved self-esteem, co-operation and independence. This term some of our staff will be receiving the training so we can run regular sessions for children at our school. In November, we have a team from Brockholes who are coming to develop the orchid area at the side of school to enable us to have a specific area for this work.
Peer Review: Our school is part of a school improvement group that are going to run a project for this academic year with McArdle Education. Our focus is going to be ‘Whole school strategy to help children know more, remember more and apply more in Maths’. This is linked to our School Improvement Plan and also Ofsted’s expectations. We are working with Penwortham Broad Oak and St Aidan’s CE Leadership Teams from Axia Learning Alliance, who will work with our Senior Leaders to celebrate our good practice and look for our next steps. This is a great opportunity for us all.
STEM Working group: Our STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics) group are now underway with a project. 6 children from each of the Axia schools will be visiting St Aidan’s CE Primary to work collaboratively. The project will entail several days working in collaboration to create a 'chain reaction'.
Forward First: Axia have joined with 4 schools in Skelmersdale for this project. We are developing our own School Direct ITT Programme in conjunction with Edge Hill University. Hopefully you will have seen our banner on the railings. Currently we are recruiting and have several open days at EHC.
