Home Learning – Week Commencing 04.01.22

Reading – Please read one of the books you have been assigned on Rising Stars each day.  The idea is to read a book more than once to build up fluency.  Once you have read a book a couple/few times so you are more fluent, please complete the quiz at the end and move it to the ‘finished’ section.

Phonics

• Tuesday- Remind yourself of the ‘qu’ phoneme by watching the video: https://youtu.be/31xPg6aHebg When you have finished watching, log on to Education City and have a go at the activity Queen’s Quiz.
• Wednesday- Recap on the ‘ch’ phoneme by watching the video: https://youtu.be/w0F5FFUlRO8 You will need a whiteboard and pen too.  After watching, have a go at the Education City activity Cheeping Chicks.
• Thursday- Recap on the ‘sh’ phoneme by watching the video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2xDeN2CkG6w Not Mrs Parker this time. ☺  Remember, each time he points at you, it’s your turn to repeat.  Also, when we write the letters in school, we do ‘up we go’ first.  When you’ve finished watching, have a go at the Education City activity Ship Shape.
• Friday- Have a go at playing one of the Roll and Read games below with a grown up.

English

• Tuesday – We will be learning The Three Little Pigs off by heart this term!   Familiarise yourselves with the story today, by reading a version you have at home or watching: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xGFjzp8wl1E which is a version of the story read to you.  Can you answer the following questions after?

• Can you remember what the three little pigs built their houses of?
• Who do you think built the best house and why?
• What did the wolf do to the house of straw?
• What did the wolf do to the house of sticks?
• What did the wolf do when he couldn’t blow down the house of bricks?

• Wednesday – We are learning The Three Little Pigs off by heart this week (and will continue this story next week).  Watch the video (https://youtu.be/TO2rnRTAkQ4 ) to see this story in action using the story map.  Today, use the story map below and the video to help you learn up to the point where the second little pig has his house blown down and runs to his brother’s house.  You may need to go over it a few times to see if you can remember it, say the story and do the actions!  How much can you remember off by heart?
• Thursday – Play the video again to remind yourself of The Three Little Pig story with actions.  Today, practise telling the story with actions, right to the end.  Rewind the video a few times to help you keep revising and retelling it.  How much can you remember?

• Friday – Can you remember what order the story goes in?  Which house was built first/second/last?  Complete the cut and stick sheet (link below) to put the pictures in the right order for the story.

Topic

This week, we start our topic on buildings and begin to look at our own homes.

• Tuesday: How many different types of buildings can you think of?  Write some down with the help of a grown up.  Then, go on a walk and see how many different buildings you can see.  Perhaps take some photos and upload to Tapestry.
• Wednesday: Time to describe your own house!  How many rooms does it have?  What type of rooms?  How many windows/doors?  What shape are they?  Does your house have a chimney?  Can you have a go at drawing your own house?
• Thursday: Look at pictures on the internet of houses in other countries and continents.  We have looked at India, Africa and Australia, so perhaps look at houses in these countries.  How are they the same or different to your own house?  Then, look at a type of house in a cold country – the igloo.  Watch the video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hwuv9qzrVec of an igloo being built and talk about this.
