Where has the year gone? It has gone super fast and we have enjoyed ourselves thoroughly. We just wanted to say a quick thank you for all of your help and support this year. We appreciate all of the time and effort that has gone into everything and we appreciate any gifts that have been bought!

Week beginning 20th June 2022
This week has been STEAM week. We have had a careers assembly, a virtual assembly and a workshop on how to use microbits. We used plants, microbits and wires to make a plant keyboard. We learnt about all of the different parts and what to do.
We have completed some art work such as pig sculptures and photo frames out of lollipop sticks. What a busy week we have had and we have really enjoyed it!
Week Beginning 8th June 2022
This week has been a short week, but we have already been really busy! We have made Father's Day cards which were quite tricky, but fun and also started researching Taro Chiezo who designed the superlambanana. We made a mood board and researched lots about the artist.
Week beginning 22nd May
We have come to the end of another half term and we only have 1 half term left in Year 3! Another super busy week in school and we have celebrated The Queen’s Jubilee. We had a fun day wearing our crowns, watching her coronation, learning about the royal family and then creating some art work using newspapers. We had lots of fun with them and really enjoyed this activity!

Week beginning 16th May 2022
We couldn’t believe it when we saw a Roman soldier in our school hall!
We did some training to become a Roman soldier and learnt some Latin words. By learning these words we could turn left and right, standing with our feet together and then apart. We got into squads to help with our training. When we were being dismissed we learnt a salute as well.
All of Year 3 really enjoyed getting to know the Roman soldier and learning some new information.

Week beginning 9th May
A busy week in Year 3. We are studying the famous artist Andy Warhol and have made a mood board of his art, then we created our own pop art flowers and followed this by producing our own pop art tile. This is in readiness to make a relief print. We will post some of our prints soon :)
Week Beginning 3rd May 2022
Both Year 3 classes have now been to the local library. We really enjoyed walking to the library and were very lucky with the weather. Whilst at the library we had books read to us and learnt all about what the library can offer us (Lego and STREAM club). Lots of questions were asked and we got lots interesting answers. We were able to look round the library at what books they have. There was a quiz and we had to guess who the character was. Some of them were Paddington bear, the very hungry caterpillar, postman pat, the The Gruffalo, Mr Tickle, Peter Pan, Alice in Wonderland, Matilda, Willy Wonka and Harry Potter.
Week beginning 25th April 2022
We have recently been enjoying our PE lessons. We are learning lots of new skills to help us play dodgeball and wehave been using a one handed dodgeball throw and trying to throw it to a target. At first this was quite tricky, but eventually we were able to get a good aim and make sure our throws had some power. Year 3 are excited for the dodgeball game!
Week begining 19th April
Throughout Year 3 we have had new carpets fitted. They look super smart.
When we came into school, our classrooms needed a little more organizing, so our teachers took all of Year three into the hall for our first Maths lesson of the term. It felt quite exciting that we were all learning together.
Week beginning 14th March
To start the week off, both Year 3 classes took part in the South Ribble Racket Festival. They learnt lots of skills of how to control the racket/ball and even got to play a short game at the end! It was a really fun, but a tricky game. Well done to the children that won. We then finished the day by having a whole school assembly all about Easter.
This week has been a bit different in school as we have been taking part in celebrating diversity. We have had lots of visitors come into school. We took part in an Islam workshop as well as a Meet the Brain workshop.
We have been learning some new tricky concepts in Maths to help with our multiplication skills. It is called the grid method and we have been using counters to help us. We have now moved onto base 10. To finish off the week we all came in something red for Comic Relief.
Week beginning 7th March
This week in English we have been publishing our Spring poems. We have thought hard about what we saw and things we may be able to see. The children spent some time publishing their poem and it was lovely to see the time and effort that had gone into them. On Wednesday, the Football Association hosted a nationwide initiative across all schools to promote the participation of girls playing football. #LETGIRLSPLAY saw the girls from all classes, across al primary and secondary schools, play football at some point during the day. Here are some photos of our Year 3 girls practicing their football skills. The boys were busy making posters to encourage children to join football teams.
Week beginning: 28th February
What a busy week we have had in Year 3! Earlier this week we went on a spring walk to see what we could find and used our senses to help us with this. It was then World Book Day on Thursday where we all dressed up and guessed who we all came as. Later in the morning, we were lucky enough to take part in a yoga session and try some of the poses. This was very calm and relaxing. To finish off the day, we went on zoom and listened to a story being told called Six Dots by Burnley Youth Theatre.
Week beginning 7/2/22
Another busy week in Year 3! We have loved making our Mosaics. They are looking fantastic, colourful and bright .
Sharing our homework with the rest of our class has been really enjoyable, It was great to see what each of us have done.
We are looking forward to half term and hoping that we have some decent weather.
Week beginning 31/1/22
This week we have had a fire safety talk. We enjoyed getting involved in some role play about what to do in the event of a fire. We discussed on how to keep safe in fires and how to make a fire evacuation plan, how to ring 999 and to shout out of a window to get help. In Geography the children did some field work based on compass points. We then drew what we could see in that direction.
Week Beginning 24th January
We had an exciting start to our week and had South Ribble Active Schools Coaches in school delivering a football festival to Year 3. They all had a fantastic session developing skills, being active and working with others. Year 3 have also been completing lots of assessments due to it being assessment week. The children have tried really hard and should be really proud of themselves. We are learning about Chinese New Year in Music and are excited to complete the unit so we can use our masks we have designed!
Week beginning 17th January
We have been using our map skills this week and locating seas, cities and rivers. It was quite tricky as we also had to use an atlas and follow the key! In P.E we have also been timing ourselves and seeing a difference in the time with the different stacks that we have learnt. Some of the timings have been super! We have been continuing our work on fables in English and have also started a new unit in Maths which involves multiplication and division.
Week beginning 10th January 2022
We've had a busy second week back and have been very enthusiastic to learn new Rugby pass skills in our P.E. lessons. This week we have been learning and practicing the swing pass.
In our Geography lessons we have been looking at the geographical and physical features of France. We are looking at the Paris Basin area and learning about the agricultural and fishing industry, tourism, climate and much more.
Week beginning 4th January 2022
Happy New Year to everyone from all of the Year 3 team! We hope you all enjoyed the Christmas break and have kept healthy.
We have been busy in the first few days back. We have completed our spelling assessments; in Maths we have been doing more addition and subtraction challenges and we have started our new Science topic about Light.
On Thursday we loved coming to school in our pyjamas and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves when we watched the Pantomime of Beauty and the Beast. It was amazing!
Tuesday 14th December
This week we have been starting to subtract a 2 digit number from 3 digit number. We are starting to get more confident with this and using different strategies to help. In the new year we will be looking at this some more.
Week Beginning 13th December
What a fabulous end to a busy half term! We have listened to some live music and have enjoyed wearing our party clothes for our Y3 party day.

Week beginning 6/12/21
This week we wore our Christmas jumpers and took part in a Santa dash. Due to the weather outside, we danced in our festive gear for 20 minute in the classroom. We loved wearing our hats that we have been given! Lots of children had Christmas Dinners and we can’t wait for our party next week!
Week Beginning 29/11/21
This week year 3 have been looking at their sewing skills. We have been using a running stitch, which we have found rather tricky! We have enjoyed making our Christmas cards and can’t wait for you to see them!

Week Beginning: 22/11/21
On Monday, a coach from the South Ribble School Sports Partnership came in to discuss, and show the children some disability friendly sports, such as Boccia, Kurling and Goalball. The children from Years 3 had a 40 minute session with their class experiencing each sport and discussing ways to make sport more inclusive for all.
The children had a great time with the coach and trying out all the different activities, take a look at the photo stream below of our sports stars in action.
Week beginning: 15/11/21
We have really enjoyed our topic work this week! We have enjoyed learning about skeletons in Science and even made a life sized child skeleton. We learnt a lot of the bone names and even danced to a funny song!
Week Beginning 1/11/21
This week we looked at the human skeleton and we made it using branches, leaves and stones. We had lots of fun and also got a little wet!

Life Skills Week
What an exciting week we have had this week!
Monday: Water Awareness Workshop - we had people form United Utilities teach us all about how the water cycle works and how to save water.
Tuesday: Mental Health workshop - we had people from Open View teach us how to take care of our emotions and mental health.
Wednesday: Financial Education Workshop - people from the Bank came in and taught us all about money and how to manage it.
Thursday: Caring For Pets Zoom - Blue cross had a zoom call with us. We talked about what a good and a bad owner is as well as looking at how to keep the animals safe and healthy. We thought of some great questions!
What a busy week we have had! We have learnt lots of new life skills and have really enjoyed it.
Week Beginning 11th October
This week we have been using base ten to help us with our addition equations.
We have been adding two single digits together then adding tens to one of the digits, then looking at the correlation. These are the sort of equations that we have been doing this week.

Week begining 4th October
We are so proud of our self portraits that we have created in the the style of the artist Nelson Makamo. To begin with we all had our photo taken, then we used carbon paper to trace our outline. After that we shaded the darker areas on our pictures. Finally we added colour to replicate the artist's style.
Week begining 27th September
Year 3 have had great fun in their P.E. lesson this week. Due to the bad weather we all developed our skills, playing with the stacking cups. We watched a video that showed us some of the history of the game and learned how to stack. It was great fun!!
Week begining 20th September
Another busy week in Year 3. We have been editing our day and night poems in our English lessons. In our Maths lessons we have been adding 1,10 and 100 more and we have been subtracting 1,10, and 100 less. Our Science lessons have been fun, we have been designing a healthy breakfast plate. We hope you like what we have made.
Week beginning 13th September
We've had a busy week in Year 3! In English we have been writing poetry about different seasons, in Maths we have been looking at numbers on a number line and in our Art lesson we drew a portrait in the style of the artist Nelson Makamo. Our computing lesson was on Purple Mash where we did some coding.
Scoot Safe
Today all the Year 3 children had great fun practicing skills on their scooters. We learned how to use our breaks and all different ways of stopping. Some of the skills we learned were helping us to balance well and we found out which leg we used best for scooting.
Later we were taught lots of safety tips such as stopping at kerbs; never using phones or wearing headphones; wearing the right safety equipment as well as bright clothing and many other tips.
We had great fun!
Unfortunately not the ones with chocolate chips.
