What is the belief of Christians? What do they value? Jesus used stories to help people understand what he wanted to teach them. These are called parables. They have a deeper meaning (a bit like a fable or moral tale) and can be interpreted in different ways. Can you make a list of everyone who has taught you something – how did the best teachers make sure that the children remembered? Jesus taught by example and by stories.
Read a variety of parables and discuss what you think Jesus is trying to teach us in the parable
The Unforgiving Servant (Matthew 18 v 21-35)
The workers in the Vineyard (Matthew 20 v 1-16)
The Good Samaritan
The Prodigal Son (Luke 15 v 11-32)
Brainstorm all the things Jesus has been teaching about – forgiveness, listening to what you are told & acting on it, honesty, what we put value in, fairness etc.

From out of the hat, there came a strange sound. The boy stepped closer to look and heard a buzzing noise, like a nest of angry bees. Suddenly, insects and birds of all sizes and colours burst from the hat and into the air. He watched,
amazed, as a huge butterfly sat on the rim of the hat and uncurled its wings. It stretched them out to warm them in the heat of the day and then elegantly skipped into the air. Twirling and whirling through the forest, it delicately wound its
way around a tree branch and then rested for a moment on its leaves.
The butterfly’s wings were a vivid turquoise and shimmered in the afternoon light. When it opened them fully you could see circles, dots and stripes in beautifully delicate patterns. Its violet antennae twitched as it warmed itself in the sun.
It was truly an incredible sight to behold and the boy stood still in awe and wonder.
