Week Beginning 8th February:

Some of our activities this week will relate to ‘Chinese New Year and Valentine’s Day’.

 

Zoom Room Invite:

In our our Zoom Room on Thursday (11th) at 10 o’clock. Please bring something you have enjoyed making/ writing etc during your home-schooling, to show and tell your friends. (We would be grateful if you could send a photograph of this to our Pre-School email too, thank you). You could wear your Chinese hat too (Maths Wed)

 

Phonics (Mon 8th)

We will be doing our short Zoom Room phonics revision session, at 11 o’clock, to revise the letters we have already learnt. (We will also include shape/ number revision too)

Before beginning each of your Literacy activity please have a look at all the letters we have been learning so far in Pre-School this year. Can you say the sound and action for each letter?

Mon 8th – A new letter.

Tues 9th – Listen to the story about Chinese New Year (this links to the Tues Topic activity too)

Can you remember all the animals in the story?

Research which animal is celebrating having this year 2021 named after it. Draw and colour a picture of it and try writing its name.

 

Wed 10thTry to do some Chinese writing. Their letters use lines which go down and lines which go across. If you can use red paper and a black pen.

Try different letters, are you able to write your name in Chinese?

 

 

Thurs 11thRemote Learning Show and Tell in our Zoom Room at 10 o’clock – please join us with the children in Pre-School, please bring something you have enjoyed doing during remote learning.

Create a Chinese Restaurant for your teddies/ dolls. Chinese people don’t use knife and forks but chopsticks. (If you don’t have any you could use straws or pencils instead). Chinese people like to eat rice and noodles too.

Write a menu for your teddies to choose which food they would like to eat (outline below).

 

 

Fri 12th  On Sunday it is Valentine’s Day, make a card for somebody you love, this could be Mummy or Daddy, Grandparents. Decorate the front of the card, maybe put a picture of a heart, flowers or a teddy on.

Mathematics

Mon 8th  – Play the counting game on CBeebies, helping Peter Rabbit count the fruit, vegetables and nuts in Mr Mcgregor’s garden

Tues 9th – Red is a lucky colour in China. Draw round a plate onto a piece of red paper, or alternatively use white. Cut out the circle.

Decorate the hat with Chinese numbers, use a black or gold felt tip, if possible

 

Cut a slit in the circle to the middle, the circle can now be made into a Chinese style hat (We’d love to see you wearing it in our Zoom Room on Thursday)

Wed 10th  – Using paint or chalk have a go at writing the numbers

Under each number draw the correct amount of dots

Now can you find:

1 teddy

2 books

3 crayons

 

Thurs 11th Using either cooked or dry noodles/ spaghetti, cut into different lengths and start with 3 pieces

Can you find the shortest/ longest?

Can you put the noodles/ spaghetti in order of size?

Now add more noodles/ spaghetti and repeat the activity

 

Fri 12th Be a ‘Number and Shape’ Teacher to your teddies (or maybe family too!)

Tell your teddies all about the different shapes, their name and why each one is special

Circle – it has no corners and it will roll

Square – it has 4 corners and 4 sides which are the same size

Triangle – it has 3 corners and 3 sides which are the same size

Oblong - it has 4 corners and has 2 long sides and 2 short sides

Count to 10 (or more)

Introduce number 1 and show 1 object, repeat for 2 and 3

(Remember to tell the teddies to count the set of objects so they know how many they

Fri 12th Cook  noodles/ spaghetti (and let them cool). Explore them using your hands, how do they feel, can you think of 3 good words to describe them?

Using chop-sticks (straws or pencils if you don’t have chopsticks), can you pick up the noodles/ spaghetti? Can you serve the noodles/ spaghetti into small bowls
