WB 18/01/21

Well done everybody for trying some of the activities at home, it is lovely to see and hear how much fun you are having while completing them

Week Beginning 18th January:

Some of our activities this week will relate to ‘balloons’.

Don't forget to come to our 'zoom room' on Thursday at 10 o'clock. 

Phonics (Mon 18th)

Again we are learning another new letter.

Tues 19th – Listen to the story ‘The Blue Balloon’ by Mick Inkpen

Discuss the story together

Who are the characters in the story?

What does the little boy do with the balloon?

Where does the balloon take the little boy and Kipper?

What colours is the balloon at the end of the story?

Turn the sound off, can you tell the story in your own words using the pictures as clues?

Wed 20th – Imagine you are holding the balloon and you begin to float away, where would you like to float to? It could be a beach, princess lane, pirate island, farm, castle etc

If you have toys based on that theme you could make the place or draw a picture of it

Ask an adult to write a sentence saying what you would say when you arrive there.

Thurs 21stIn the air draw anti-clockwise circles, start at the top    

Do large and small circles, which you can add a string line at the bottom so they look like balloons. Then see if you can do the same with paint or chalk.

Fri 22nd  Draw a balloon shape and have a go at copying the  colour word inside it, using the correct colour pen/ pencil/ crayon.

Write your name on it too, trying to use a different colour for each letter

Mathematics

Mon 18th – We are going to learn a new shape called a rectangle (it is sometimes called an oblong too)

It has 4 sides (like a square) but 2 are long and 2 are short, it has 4 corners

Be a shape detective how many things can you find in your house which are an oblong shape, it doesn’t matter which way round the oblong is

Tues 19th - Introduce the words biggest and smallest, look at these 2 balloons which is the biggest? Which is the smallest?

Can you see the number 2 anywhere around your house, in books?

Can you collect 2 teddies, tins, pencils etc (don’t forget to put them next to each other to count them). Repeat this using both numbers 1 and 2 alternatively

To extend,  show the number rather than saying it

Thurs 21st How tall can you make a tower, you could use wooden bricks, duplo, lego or mega bloks. Count how many bricks you used

Can you make another tower the same size? Shorter? Taller?

Put your teddies in a row, can you count how many there are?

Remember to touch each teddy as you count

Mon 18th  - Using a balloon inside or a ball outside can you:

  • throw it into the air

  • throw it to someone else in your family

  • catch it when someone throws it to you, start near each other and gradually move apart

  • kick it into a target/  goal

  • dribble it from one side of the room/ garden to the other, add some obstacles to go round

  • roll it around the room/ garden

Wed 20th  – Make a colourful bubble painting

Thurs 21stFill a bucket of soapy water (this could be with bubble bath or washing-up liquid) and a whisk to make some lovely bubbles. Explore the bubbles with your hands:

How do they feel?

What do they smell like?

Can you see any the colours? Can you see a rainbow?

Put your ear near to the bubbles do they make any sound?

Can you blow the bubbles away?

What happens to the bubbles on your hand?

Can you count how many bubbles are in your hand?

Use cups/ spoons to serve up some delicious ‘milkshakes’!

You could do this activity as part of your bathtime or in a sink

 

 

Fri 22nd Make a pom-pom shooter. You can fill it will pom-poms, paper balls or even mini marshmallows and try to ‘fire’ them to hit a target!
