We have been working on using addition and subtraction strategies in word problems. Please work through these different word problems with a family member; ensure you show your working out.
A zoo has 432 visitors on Saturday and another 186 on Sunday. How many visitors were there altogether?
A baker made 369 pastries in the morning. He then made 128 more pastries in the afternoon. He then sold 235 pastries. How many pastries did he have left at the end of the day?
A classroom has 123 coloured pencils. The teacher buys 43 more pencils but then 28 are broken. How many coloured pencils does the classroom now have in total?
A film studio produced 487 films over five years. In the sixth year, they made 130 more films. They then lost the rights to 125 films. How many films do they have left?
A charity raised £845 in one event and £312 in another. They then spent £175 on new equipment. How much money does the charity have remaining?
