This week: 14th - 18th September

This week, we have:

  • Continued to establish our school and class routines and the children are doing really well in picking these up
  • Been having fun playing in the provision - especially in the water and craft areas
  • Continued to establish new friendships amongst our new classmates
  • Started phonics and learnt our first 4 sounds - s, a, t & p
  • Had our first group reading session with a wordless book, so we can talk about the story
  • Started going into assembly and sitting with the other children
  • Started our daily calendar, so we know the day, the number date, the month and the season
  • Completed our first full week!

Your children have settled in so well and we are proud of them.  There is so much to take in, in the first few weeks of Reception, and whilst it is exciting, it can also be exhausting - so if you have a tired, grumpy or tearful child on your hands, please do not

worry - this is perfectly normal.  It's change, it's all new in so many ways and it is more than they were ever used to in pre-school or nursery.  So, our children may need some time and space to adjust, and some children more than others because they are all different.  All they need is lots of love, patience, encouragement and....rest!  They will need rest and downtime at the weekends in these first few weeks.

Next week:

  • We will learn the next 4 sounds - i, n, m & d
  • We will send home another wordless reading book for you to discuss the storyline together (this will change the week after when we have learnt the first 8 sounds, and we will begin sending home books with words)
  • We will begin our learning routines, with an English & Maths session in the morning and a topic session in the afternoon.

Have a great weekend everyone.  Don't forget to check out some pictures from our week in the Weekly Gallery!

Families

In the next couple of weeks, the children will begin to share with the class about their families.  With this in mind, if you would like to email a family picture to reception@lostockhallcps.co.uk, this will really help the children when sharing with the class about their family as we can display it on the board when they are talking.

Thank you

This week: 7th - 11th September

Wow – this week has gone quickly.

The children are settling well into our school routines and coming into school well, please continue to encourage the children to come into school independently with their coats and bags.

Thank you to the parents who attended the curriculum meeting on Wednesday evening, we have since sent home in book bags each children’s pack to support the children’s learning at home. Please use these packs to support your children’s reading and phonics.  We will also upload the power point from Wednesday onto the blog for those parents who were unable to attend.

Next week we will be finishing our baseline assessments and starting our formal phonics learning. We will start learning our first 4 sounds (s, a, t and p), following this we will also be sending home our wordless books. Please can you sit down with your child and encourage your child to look at the pictures on each page and try and retell the story.

Please can you ensure your child brings into school their book bags every day so we are able to listen to your child and change any books required.

Have a lovely weekend.
