French Day 14/7/22
Well what a fabulous day we had in school to celebrate Bastille Day. Everyone came in either red, white or blue to represent the colours of the French flag. We were all able to have a taster session of different French pastries which were super yummy! We were lucky that Tesco in Leyland donated lots of these to the school to help us take part in this experience as well as listening to some local French music.
In Reception they painted their own pictures of the Eiffel Tower. They learnt lots of greetings on how to say hello, goodbye, thank you, my name is and how are you in French? The children loved saying “Bonjour!” in the register to one another. The children looked at France and what they may find there as well as colouring the flag in the correct colours.
In Year 1 the children took part in a French workshop which involved some students from Priory where they played some games. They played snap and learnt the colours, looked at different foods in French and had to guess the food and finally learn about different animals in French. Lots of different French songs were sung which the children really enjoyed.
Year 2 made some different flavoured quiches which smelt amazing! They redesigned the French flag and drew some of the landmarks inside it. They took part in a workshop from Priory and had lots of fun taking part in this. Lots of facts were remembered about the country and learnt some French songs.
Year 3 looked at ‘Mardi Gras’ celebration and were fascinated to find out that they make sculptures out of citrus fruits. Once we had finished learning about this, we created our own masks and pretend that we were in our own parade. They looked at how to draw the Eiffel Tower and then coloured it using pointillism, basing this on a French artist. Year 3 also learnt some key phrases.
In Year 4 they learnt lots about the Eiffel Tower and researched more about this afterwards. They were then able to complete a fact file to show what they had learnt. They also made a French ticket and wrote this in French.
Year 5 were really busy and learnt all about Easter in France. They reminded themselves of some Traditional Tales and then started to make their own and translate it. They learnt about pointillism and how it works as well as impressionism.
In Year 6 they looked at some of Le Mis as well as the understanding behind Bastille day. Finally they looked at some known English songs and tried to learn parts of them in French.
