Weekly nursery rhyme - Each week we will now be setting a nursery rhyme for the children to learn off by heart (if they don't already), because knowing a bank of nursery rhymes by heart is so important. This week's, in keeping with the fact that it is Children's Mental Health Week, we would like the children to learn and practise 'If You're Happy and You Know It!' - follow the link https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/school-radio/nursery-rhymes-if-youre-happy-and-you-know-it-clap-your-hands/z6rnmfr
You could try starting each day practising the nursery rhyme or before bed each night - a little and often approach always works best. ☺ Enjoy!
Reading – Please read one of the books you have been assigned on Rising Stars each day. The idea is to read a book more than once to build up fluency. Once you have read a book a couple/few times so you are more fluent, please complete the quiz at the end and move it to the ‘finished’ section.
Please also read key words daily as flashcards (should take 2-3 minutes)
Phonics - Recap phase 2/3 sounds using the Phase 2 and 3 sound mats. Watch the short video above, then click on the link to find out about the first of this week’s phonemes (ur) https://youtu.be/ylwWnCQgNeU. Play Education City activity Surf’s Up.
English - This week, we will be looking homes and houses, using our phonics to read, and writing labels.
Read the non-fiction book with Mrs Parker – following the link: https://youtu.be/oClSCYcCpfo. Talk about fiction and non-fiction and what the difference is. Have a look at the books in your house – can you choose some of them and sort them into fiction (story) and non-fiction (information) books? Complete the fiction and non-fiction activity (document below).
Topic - Today, in school, we will be taking part in a pentathlon event and we would love for you to join in at home. Please feel free to take photos and post them on Tapestry, along with your child's score sheet, which can be found below. If you are taking part, which we hope you are, try your very best but most importantly have lots of fun doing so! See how many of each you can do in one minute - apart from the vertical jump where you will need to get a grown up to measure (how high you can jump). Here are pictures of each activity and how to set it up. Please use any suitable toys/ household objects to set up your activities.
Unfortunately not the ones with chocolate chips.
