Mental Maths task will be handed to all children when they return to school on Monday 8th March!
None this week!
Monday 1st March
Fractions of a set of objects, lesson 1
(Fractions of an amount).
A fraction splits a whole (1) into as many pieces as the denominator.
So one quarter ¼ , splits a whole 1 into 4 equal pieces.
Similarly, you can have one quarter (fourth) of an amount (the amount would be in the four times tables).
So one quarter ¼ of 12, would be 12 ÷ 4.
If it was a bar model, you would split 12 into 4 equal pieces and then you would identify what one part of the bar model is worth:

Tuesday 2nd March
Fractions of a set of objects, lesson 2
(Fractions of an amount).
Second clip to help- https://youtu.be/aw2B0TFV4tM
Today's lesson will look at finding non-unit fractions of an amount.
A non-unit fraction is a fraction where the numerator is larger than one.
To find a non-unit fraction of an amount you first have to find out what 1/? is worth.
Consider quarters.
To find ¾ of 20.
You first have to find out what ¼ is worth.
So you take your amount (36) and divide it by the denominator (4) which is 9.
9 is the same as one-quarter ¼.
But the question asked to find three-quarters ¾.
So then you multiply your answer (9) by the numerator in the question (3)
9 x 3 = 27
So ¾ of 36 is 27
Shown as a bar:
Each section is worth 9, three sections are worth 27 (9+9+9)

Wednesday 3rd March
Fractions of a quantity
Today's lesson explore the relationships of fractions, in relation to finding a fraction of an amount.
I've added the fraction wall below to help you with equivalent fractions.
However, you will want to look at how 1 quarter is half the size of 1 half.
Again, how one eight is half the size of one quarter.
Exploring relationships such as that.
Please make sure you watch the clip, this is a bit of a tricky lesson to get your head around but do your best.
Once you have watched the clip going through the PPT, complete the Write On task and check your answers using the document.
Thursday 4th March
Calculating quantities
Today's lesson is exploring your understanding of fractions, looking at almost all of the work we have done so far.
You will see partially completed bar models of fractions and it will ask you to fill in the blanks.
E.g.
This question shows us that the whole is worth 24 and 2/6 is worth 8.
The question will ask what is each segment/section worth.
If 2 sections are worth 8, and both section has to have to save value, you would divide by 2, to find out what 1/6 is worth 4, therefore:

Once you have watched the Youtube clip and worked through the PowerPoint, completed the Write On activity, and check your answers using the Ans document.
Friday 5th March
Times Tables Rock Stars Battle.
We've finished with fractions!
The children in school will log into TT Rockstars at 9:45 and head to the 'Arena' section and join Wembley.
Play against your classmates to show off your skills!
This will be from 9:45 to 10:40.
Join the session and have fun... make sure you find a music playlist to rock out to while your shedding the keyboard!
Enjoy your last day of homeschooling and we'll see you on Monday- you've all worked fantastically, we could not be more proud!
Unfortunately not the ones with chocolate chips.
