Mrs Alty has signed us up for a new online Maths resource which will help us with our progress.
You have all been emailed, via Purple Mash, your unique login details. Please keep a note of these, when we return to school, they will be glued into the back of your Green Reading Diary.
Please watch the clip from Mr Jardine and log into your own account to complete the first and second diagnostic ‘tests’.
Diagnostic one, is 15 questions.
Diagnostic two is 40.
It is crucial that you complete this independently without adult support. The programme will assume you can answer questions correctly that you may not be able to answer on your own.
Once you have completed these, you are free to go onto the next suggested questions and earn coins to decorate your avatars as you please.
Monday - Maths
Y3 Recap, Adding Fractions
(This was the last lesson of half term, I did change the lesson to a TT Rock Stars battle, if you have already completed the lesson, please do not worry)
If this is you, please complete the Sumdog Activity from above.
When we add fractions, the denominators must be the same.
The denominators do not get added together.
We would only add the numerators.
E.g.
5/9+ 3/9= 8/9
They may add to an answer over one whole, we can write this as an improper fraction or a mixed number or both!
E.g.
5/9 + 8/9 = 13/9= 1 & 4/9

Tuesday - Maths
Add 2 or more fractions.
To continue from yesterday’s lesson, the denominators must be the same when adding fractions. Once you have found the improper fraction, turn it into a mixed number.
Complete the Write On activity and then check your answers.
Use the Dive Deeper poster to create your own extension questions to challenge your understanding of the topic.

Subtract Fractions
Again, the denominators must be the same when subtracting fractions (as with adding).
Some questions are presented as part whole models- remember, the bottom ‘legs’ of the part whole add up to the above number.

Complete the Write On activity and then check your answers.
When drawing and completing the bar model representations, like from the powerpoint, draw out the whole first fraction, then clearly cross out the ones you are taking away.
Tip- Question 7f)
Yes, the denominators are different, but if you change them into a mixed number, you will see what you have to do!
Friday - Maths
Subtract fractions from whole amounts
When subtracting fractions from whole numbers, you must exchange the whole number into a fraction- the same fraction as the number you are taking away.
E.g.
2 - 2/7 =
You would turn your 2 into sevenths, two wholes is the same as 14/7
So it would be 14 sevenths - 2 sevents = 12 sevenths.
14/7 - 2/7= 12/7= 1 & 5/7
As I have done, if you are left with an improper fraction, you should also represent this as a mixed number.
