Tuesday, 9th March - English - Balanced Discussion
For the rest of this week we will be pulling together all of our learning so far about balanced discussion writing and linking this to our Geography topic of the Amazon Rainforest.
Today we will be collecting information about our balanced discussion topic :
Firstly, we need to find out about what deforestation is and how it is affecting the Amazon rainforest.
Activity - please carefully watch the BBC Bitesize video clip and read the presentation introducing this topic - see below.
Now read the arguments on the 'For and Against Deforestation' sheet below - can you colour the arguments for deforestation in one shade and then the arguments against deforestation in another colour?
Wednesday, 10th March - English
Today we planning our balanced discussion by writing for and against arguments in note form.
Is the Deforestation of the Amazon Rainforest Necessary?
Activity - please write at least three 'for' arguments and three 'against' arguments for this topic using the information you collected yesterday. See writing frame below.
Try using bullet points to organise your arguments and explain each argument clearly using facts and evidence from the research you did yesterday.
Thursday 11th and Friday 12th March - English
Today and tomorrow we will be writing our balanced discussion based on the question:
Is the deforestation of the Amazon rainforest necessary?
Activity - Please write your balanced discussion - see writing frame below. Remember to keep your writing in the present tense and use a range of language of debate words and phrases such as 'in addition,' 'on the other hand' 'others may argue that ...'
once you have finished your writing please proof read and edit it carefully, checking for punctuation, spelling and effective word choices.
