Monday 1 November – English – Using powerful vocabulary.
Please watch and listen to this Sky Audio description advert: This advert shows the power of words and phrases to create a picture in the listener’s mind.
https://www.literacyshed.com/sky-audio.html
Now re watch the video with your eyes closed. How effective is the description of the forest? Which key words and phrases do you think are most effective?
Activity – draw the forest scene using the description in the video clip. See written version of the advert below.
English - Tuesday, 2nd November and Wednesday 3rd November.
Please carefully read the story 'The Caravan' by Pie Corbett - see below. This is a 'warning story' in which the main character is warned not to go somewhere or do something and disobeyed what they are told. Now read it again and think about what are the main sections of the story - can you split up the story by boxing it up into 7 or 8 sections? See an example of this below.
Activity - please use the story board sheet below to create a comic strip version of the story.
English - Thursday 4th November and Friday 5th November
Today and tomorrow we will be planning and writing our own warning story inspired by 'The Caravan' story we read earlier this week.
Firstly use the Caravan story line to plan your own short story in note form using the planning sheet below. Next, have a go at writing your short story - your story line should hinge around your main character being warned not to go somewhere or do something and disobeying what they are told. This leads to a disaster, rescue and in the end a lesson is learned.
Unfortunately not the ones with chocolate chips.
