English Home Learning WB 11.10.21
Please have a go at the lessons below. Remember to do your daily Reading Plus sessions and also your home reading and weekly spellings.
English - Tuesday 12th and Wednesday 13th October - writing a setting description.
Firstly, please watch the video clip of Harry Potter seeing Hogwart's for the very first time - see link below.
Now think about how do you think the children feel when they first set eyes on Hogwarts Castle? How do you know ? Pause the short film at around 54 seconds, where the moonlit sky can be seen, plus the boats on the misty water and the castle in the background. Today and tomorrow we will be improving and extending the setting description of Hogwarts castle from the novel, because it is such a magical sight for Harry Potter (although the description of it in the book is only very short.)
Activities - Day 1 (Tuesday) - create your own drawing of Hogwarts in the mist as seem from Harry's boat. Label your picture with different effective descriptive works and phrases.
Day 2 - (Wednesday) firstly, read the example of a setting description of Hogwarts - see resources below. Now have a go at writing your own setting description. Try to include everything you can see in the picture of Hogwarts (e.g. the lake, the mist, the sky, the moon, the castle – windows, size, stairs leading up the mountain, the atmosphere itself).
English - Thursday 14th October - Punctuating Speech.
Today please read the presentation about how to correctly punctuate speech below. Now have a go at punctuating the text from Harry Potter below making sure you use the correct speech punctuation. Don’t forget to start a new line if someone different is speaking. Different characters are in different colours.
